The 2011 Milwaukee Wine Fest, glass by glass

Wine, Women and Song is the cliché embedded in our collective heads for a life of indulgence and pleasure (at least since the 18th century). In this case, wine, women, weather and Song sounded in my head as I entered the wine festival after the great Milwaukee, bad weather hit the event last year, not all spirits sinking but the demolition of tents and closing the opening night down cold.

After spending the festival in 2010 huddled in the underground parking of MMA because of storms, I was more than ready to take in 2011 under a peaceful sky.After all, with a privileged location next to the iconic Milwaukee Art Museum Calatrava designed Quadracci Pavilion skies often clear, many wines to try, a TGIF crowd and the promise of live music, the event could not help but be a good time.

The main sponsor was the Harris Bank, people who have recently purchased hometown of M & I may seek and gain the goodwill and name recognition by sponsoring the event. The sponsor food and wine was Sendiks Food Market, a chain of upscale grocery stores with deep roots in Milwaukee and an expanding empire (and the Department of wine).

This event is designed as an introduction to wine - tasting entry-level, if you want. However the press release for the event was a bit misleading when he says: "[The Milwaukee Wine Festival] is not only a great opportunity for the wine connoisseur to discover the best of this year new blends and exciting, but it is also the ideal place for newcomers to the world of wine experts to learn the basics in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. "To be honest," best of the new year mixtures and exciting "were simply not there.

Last year the event was marked by complaints of the best wines to miss ridiculously early. It seems that sellers who have chosen to make a wine that sells for over $ 20 only brought one bottle, so if you were not among the top 25 or if you were SOL, as they say, for things premium. This year, this problem has been solved - the sellers simply do not bring many premium wines. However, there were a handful of mid-range wines or premium ($ 25 +) to be found if you have studied your price list of the Festival brochure carefully.

But there is something to be said for creating an accessible area, the experience of wine not intimidating, and there was a huge and diverse selection of easy drinking, good wines to know. In addition to more than 270 wines available, a half-dozen vendors offered more beer more than 100 beers to sample, many of which are new to the market in Milwaukee. Keeping in mind of a tasting event, it was also made in one ounce samples, maintaining an atmosphere of moderation and sampling - not the party.

Excellent Travel Camera

I was in the market for a new point and shoot since my Canon S40 was a dud. I came across this and was immediately attracted by its size and weight. I primarily use this camera on travel for photos however I also use it for other things as well.

By no means am I a professional or even seasoned amateur when it comes to photography. I simply needed something to capture the moments. This little thing fit the bill quite nicely and I couldn’t be any happier with it.

The features that impressed me the most were the 12MP, Lithium ion battery, size/weight, and functionality of it.

With a lot of other point and shoots, the camera’s have selector wheels that allow you to adjust the settings based on the environment, lighting, etc, to get the best picture. Only problem is that, when taking that once in a lifetime shot, screwing around with the selector wheel is the last thing one should be worried about.

This camera is a true point and shoot which is what I liked the most about this camera. You simply turn it on, point and snap. The start up time for the camera is very quick (I’d say 2 seconds). Since I don’t have to screw around with a selector wheel, this camera allows me to snap away at whatever I want and let the processor figure out what’s best for the shot. An often overlooked but really great feature of this camera.

The video recording on this is so-so although I wouldn’t expect high grade video quality from something like this. Overall though, it’s a nice little feature of this camera since it takes videos in 720p resolution.

The files are limited at 30 minutes a piece and, if you plan on using this thing for video purposes, you’re going to need a large SDHC card since the video files can get massive in size, real quick. I currently use a 32GB card with a 16GB for backup and those workout great for me. I also purchased an aftermarket extended battery for this off eBay for $5 and really like that as well.

The picture quality of the camera is quite nice. For the average 3×5 or 4×6 photo, this camera will capture almost every detail in the pic. The large size of the photos come out at 4000 x 3000 pixels which can be blown up to poster size (if i’m not mistaken).
