The Australian leg of the tour commenced at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre in Perth on March 10th and finished at the Palms Crown in Melbourne on March 26th.  This part of the tour was a sell out long before Gerry arrived down under.  Gerry’s Pacemakers for this tour were the Australian All Stars who would open the show for the first half and then back Gerry for the second half. After the phenomenal success of last years tour, this years tour will commence on September 24th (that day rings a bell) and carry on through to December.  The venues apart from a handful are different from last years.  This is to give the public more of a chance to see the show and also some theatres don’t necessarily want a similar show two years running.  Two shows are on the itinerary for Ireland which will be very welcome.  Most venues are well placed for accessibility from all directions.  At this moment not all the venues are selling tickets, but will be shortly.  Check the venues website or give them a ring. Always check the tour date page and if not sure ask the venue (if in doubt) as to what format the show will be.  On June 19th Gerry and The Pacemakers are to perform at The Bay Festival on the Isle Of Man.  This takes place at Nobles Park, Douglas.  On the bill also performing amongst others are Westlife, Peter Andre and Stacy Solomon.  Sounds a great day out. An anniversary celebration of the famous Cavern Club in Liverpool was aired on the ITV recently.  Gerry was interviewed for the programme.  A rare clip of Gerry And The Pacemakers in the early days playing ‘Ferry’ was shown.  It was a pity at the end of the programme they didn’t have Gerry singing ‘I’ll Be There’ as this was always the last disc sung by Bobby Darin to be played at the end of each session by the D.J.  Gerry of course recorded it in early 1965 as it was one of his favourite songs. A new book is out called ‘Mersey Ferry Tales’  It tells of the famous ferries through the years including the famous rock n’roll cruises, the fish n chip boats, etc.  It mentions the part Gerry has played in keeping them afloat and how now they are part of Liverpools’ thriving tourist industry.  BBC Merseysides Spencer Leigh says that good humour is always associated with the ferries and he goes onto mention   “when Gerry was given the Freedom Of The City by the then Lord Mayor Steve Rotherham there was a short ceremony on the ferry and Gerry sang his famous ‘Ferry Cross The Mersey’. Dear Friends,As this letter comes on line we are having good weather and a very dry period, after one of the coldest winters on record.  Whilst we’ve been basking in sunshine here in England, Gerry has been the other side of the world in :-AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALANDThe Australian leg of the tour commenced at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre in Perth on March 10th and finished at the Palms Crown in Melbourne on March 26th.  This part of the tour was a sell out long before Gerry arrived down under.  Gerry’s Pacemakers for this tour were the Australian All Stars who would open the show for the first half and then back Gerry for the second half. The following are excerpts from various reviews and I quote:-“…..saw Gerry last night at the Jupiters Casino (Gold Coast)… he was awesome as usual and has still got what it takes to belt out a song.”“We saw Gerry last night at Frankston Arts Centre (Melbourne), what a fantastic show ….every person in the theatre thoroughly enjoyed his singing, story telling and jokes with the audience.”“Gerry still has the voice that he had back in the sixties. Would recommend the show to anyone who loved the originals”.“Gerry Marsden put on a wonderful show……. and had a great sense of humour and involved the audience.  I had forgotten what a wonderful voice he had”.The above are just a few of the many reviews acclaiming Gerry’s Australian shows. You can also read more comments on this website. On the New Zealand leg of the tour, Gerry was supported by Hermans Hermits.  These shows were also sold out well in advance and the final show came to an end at Auckland on the 10th April.Gerry has toured Australia since the 60’s and his popularity has never waned judging by the sell out concerts that he performs.  On this particular trip as with many in the past Gerry’s wife Pauline went along and on the way home they stopped over in Dubai for three days to chill out and no doubt for Pauline to do a bit of shopping. !! SIXTIES GOLD TOUR AUTUMN 2011After the phenomenal success of last years tour, this years tour will commence on September 24th (that day rings a bell) and carry on through to December. This years line up is virtually the same i.e. Gerry and The Pacemakers, The Searchers, Chip Hawkes with the addition of The Fortunes in place of P.J.Proby.  It is truly a great line up with two of the greatest bands to emerge from the Merseybeat era; the fantastic lead singer of The Tremeloes and the melodic sounds of The Fortunes. The artists between them had 39 Top 40 hits with 23 top ten hits and 7 No 1’s. A total of 437 weeks was spent in the charts between them.  A wonderful record and another wonderful tour to look forward to.
