Cosplay Complex – Review | The Otaku's Study
Blurb: Cosplay Complex is a series originally released in 2002, and is what the title expects it to be, a series about a group of students cosplaying together. Having three episodes surrounding pure cosplay would have been boring, so they added some relationships, a wide variety of different character personalities and a number of gags, all of which are hit or miss. The design is average, with more focus being put on the cosplay more then anything else. Voice acting is decent with some average music alongside it. An overall enjoyable, if not a bit bland watch.
First of all, I am aware that this series was not on my review list, however whilst I initially stated I would be on a break until Wednesday, some important things came up in terms of my education and my timetable which has thrown my review schedule in disarray, normal reviews will begin this weekend. This however, intends on just being a small review to tide over until then.
You may be asking, “Hold on Sam…. I can’t find this title on either Madman Entertainment or Siren Visuals websites? Where can I get it?” . Unlike most of my reviews, this is actually a title that never made it to the shores of Australia, and was released solely in America by ADV Films before they went kaput. This series is all about cosplay and a group of students in their pursuit to becoming the countries best cosplayers, but how does the storyline fare overall? Read on to found out in my review of Cosplay Complex.
In reality, Chako and her friends are barely able to keep their club alive at all. Feeble club membership and a lack of sponsorship might be the end of their cosplay dreams before they can even start. But don’t you dare underestimate their group of spunky girls! They’ll survive a barrage of pervy newcomers, cosplay rivalries, costume disarsters and dating mishaps in order to reach their ultimate goal of competing in the World Series. The clothing flies as the girls suit up (and strip down) for Cosplay Complex!
Do not just pass on this series because you think it will just be a series about girls cosplaying as characters from different anime….. errrr…. actually it is that, however they do try and add a few other plot lines here and there to make it seem more of a series that surrounds a vaster degree of comedy then just a general slip-up. The characters are a well-rounded group of people, each with their different “otaku” trait…. the loli, the corresponding foreigner who goes after said loli, the protective big sister, the yandere, the ditzy girl and the all-knowing pervert male club leader to name a few.
