Interest groups, Hennepin Co. line up behind limited government shutdown

Interest groups and Hennepin County have joined the chorus of petitioners backing a limited government shutdown in new paperwork made public by Ramsey County District Court today.

Six new filings are out as of this morning, all of which are available here . More are expected throughout the day, including filings on behalf of local governments, ahead of tomorrow’s first hearing in the shutdown-related lawsuit before Ramsey County Judge Kathleen Gearin .

The groups filing today include the Minnesota Hospital Association, which joined the case in support of Attorney General Lori Swanson’s petition that would lead to a more limited government shutdown than Gov. Mark Dayton has proposed. Hennepin County’s filing echoes that of one filed yesterday by Ramsey County , arguing that it provides services under state and federal mandate and requires state support to continue to do so.

The Associated General Contractors of Minnesota’s filing asks the court to allow some state contracts to be deemed “core functions” and continue to be funded in the event of a shutdown. The Minnesota Workforce Council Association, likewise, has requested that the court allow federal grants for employment grants and Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF) to continue to flow after July 1.

Donna Dunn , executive director of the Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault, filed an affidavit with the court making the case that her organization is also an essential service and critical to public safety, contrary Dayton’s suggestion in his own court filing. The MN AIDS Project has also asked that it be deemed essential in a shutdown.

So far, no outside organization or interest group has signed onto an effort from four GOP senators to block all state funding in the event of a shutdown. That effort is taking place both in Ramsey County Court as well as the state Supreme Court, although Dayton and Swanson have both moved to have the high court dismiss it.

Because the Liberals can not deal with the fact that they have over spent. No in their minds as scary a place as that may be. They do believe that every thing is a right . I contend that it’s no worse than a drug pusher, they enslave thier people by giving them all kinds of treats. Then their lemme’s will carry on like spoiled kids and throw tantrums and gives them an excuse to go burn and break things. No it is time to put up or shut up. You want taxes raised. I will do you one better. Go strictly flat tax on people and business. And yeah you poor babies that don’t pay anything can start chipping in. I mean if your on the goverment pasifer you can pay the same percent as the rest of us do. THen at least you have a buy in and maybe will be wiser just what freebie you give away. However I am sure the Dems will do their best to show that they are made. However I am sure you will hear the talking points . Oh it won’t hurt them.. and again I will ask Dayton.. what happened to all those tax dollars your family saved by hiding the business across the boarder in South Dakota. .. oh wait go into full denial mode.
