Street fashion in the Bronx: How locals whip up the perfect summertime outfit

Vanderpool is a girly-girl with an athletic edge. The 17-year-old high school softball star is intense on the field, but extremely feminine when it comes to her personal style.
"I like baby colors, a lot of browns and beiges," she says.
To stay cool in the warm weather, Vanderpool prefers linen pants paired with airy tops or dresses.
When she needs fashion tips, she turns to magazines and her style idols, the Kardashians, whose collection of killer heels has given her a case of shoe envy.
She usually pairs her outfits with gold and silver accessories and likes to experiment with beauty products.
Gyllian Dunkley, Fordham
Dunkley is chic, but comfortable. "My style is casual and girly," she says.
A student and part-time sales associate, Dunkley is always in the know when it comes to fashion and shopping.
"I know what prices are like. If I want to go shopping, I'll budget for pieces I want and bring the right amount."
She favors light colors like baby pink and cream, so it's no surprise her summer must-have is a white romper.
"Anybody can put on shorts and a nice T, but a romper is different," she says.
She would complete the look with a pink cardigan and matching sandals.
"It'd bring out the gold in my complexion.
