Mayan Calendar Magic Part 1 Video
We continue our series with a discussion of the number one in Mayan math and day counting. Illtud Melchizedek explains how numbers in the Mayan languages are mostly used with numerical classifiers that indicate what is being counted. The name and the number of a thing are bound together in this way creating a magical bond which is part of the circle of life. The Mayan system therefore is based on real numbers which are whole numbers based on real things, instead of symbols for numbers which are used in some other mathematical systems to describe theoretical things. Historians, anthropologists, mathematicians, and 2012 theorists will sometimes say that the Mayans had no fractions, division, or multiplication. This is not exactly the case, as we can see when we look at the Dresden Codex, the Mayan Pyramids, or any of the Mayan Calendars. The Mayans kept their ones whole by using fractals and observing repeating sequences over long periods of time to measure cycles in the heavenly bodies. Nature builds a tree by layering similar patterns upon existing structures, just as a pyramid is built by repeating a pattern of similarity one layer upon another. The one is the beginning, and it is the brick that builds everything. Mayan Calendar Facts, Insights, and Possibilities
